MINDFUL MONDAY // 2/25/19

Oh hello, Monday.

Let’s take some mindful moments before we start our day.

This little Monday Mindfulness series is a chance for me to give space to take a pause, share thoughts and things that I’ve been loving and appreciate the little moments in life.

If you’ve seen my Instagram post, you know that I’m in Joshua Tree for my 2nd Annual self-retreat, so I’m preparing this Mindful Monday before I sign-off on social media for the weekend. I hope you enjoy and see you when I return on Tuesday <3

MINDFULNESS

// Loving-kindness Meditation

Sit in a comfortable position and take two or three deep breaths with slow, long and complete exhalations. Let go of any concerns and just for a few minutes, feel your breath moving through the center of your chest and imagine your breath filling your lungs and heart.

May I be happy
May I be free of physical pain and suffering
May I be healthy and strong
May I be able to live in this world happily, peacefully, joyfully, and with ease

May you be happy
May you be free of physical pain and suffering
May you be healthy and strong
May you be able to live in this world happily, peacefully, joyfully, and with ease

Loving-Kindness Meditation is the practice of cultivating goodwill, benevolence, happiness, contentment, and peacefulness towards ourselves and others. I believe that all of our lives are connected and when we embrace Loving-Kindness, we acknowledge that every one of us shares the same wish to be happy and loved. Loving-Kindness also increases our awareness to look at ourselves and others with compassion instead of reflexive criticism, to empathize with those we otherwise wouldn’t pay attention to and to love ourselves unconditionally. Do you have a Loving-Kindness practice? What benifits have you experienced?

MINDFUL STYLE + BEAUTY

// Madewell – The High-Rise Slim Boyjean in Evangeline Wash

I was beyond excited when Madewell announced their line of sustainable denim in partnership with Fair Trade Certified™, a nonprofit organization that holds companies to rigorous ethical standards, like promoting a sustainable livelihood and safe working conditions for their employees, protection of the environment, and transparent supply chains.

It’s only been about a year since I started my ethical fashion journey and after researching more about how some of my favorite brands didn’t rate well in terms of sustainability or environmental footprint, I was so disappointed. This partnership with Madewell and FTC is a huge step in the right direction and although they have a long way to go, I appreciate brands that are doing what they can to build more awareness, after all, not everyone is perfect. Although these jeans run small (I got a 25 over my usual 26), these high-rise slim boyfriends did not disappoint in comfort and style.

MINDFUL LIVING

// Zero Waste Wooden Utensil Set

Have you ever gone to an “order-at-the-counter” restaurant or cafe only to realize that they only have plastic utensils? Or gotten take-out to eat at the park (we do this often with the girls). I always felt wasteful to use the plastic utensils, only for them to be thrown away after one use. I custom ordered these Zero Waste Wooden Utensil Set with matching organic bag and napkins for my family from Spruce + Pine so that we can start to waste less. They’re an investment upfront, but so much better for our environment in the long run.

And a mindful tip: next time you have food delivered to your home (which we often do!) make sure that you specify that you do not need any plastic utensils! You already have utensils at home, so why create more waste? <3

MINDFUL CONSUMPTION

// Grilled Pineapples

Sometimes an extra step, like grilling pineapples, elevates a simple salad like this Spinach + balsamic vinegar salad with grilled pineapples. The sweet and salty tastes complement each other so nicely.

MINDFUL MOTHERHOOD

// Ri + Em

Weekday mornings with the girls are usually rushed, but I hope to take more moments like this to take in this age of innocence because life happens way too fast. It’s the little things.
